As I read through this article ( A degree is nice, but we need something else ), a central recurring question seemed to manifest itself.

Does education emphasize upon the individual’s enrichment or the benefit of the market ?

Presidential Election In Retrospect

First of all, I would like to congratulate Tony Tan for winning the post of President. Even so, winning is only the start of the battle.

I did not vote for you. So, you would have to prove your worth to myself and the other 60% of Singaporeans who had voted the other candidates. All the best and may you succeed.

Singapore And Trafficking

July 4, 2011 1 comment

I refer to the Today article (US report riddled with ‘inaccuracies’: S’pore, 29 June 2011). The author did not leave his or her name with the article, so I am unable to credit the writer.

In the article, it was reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) took issue to the US report, citing two inaccuracies, among “numerous others”.

The article then went on a barrage against, what seems to be the American incapability to handle their own immigration matter.

This is a tactic so typical of the PAP government. Whenever they are criticised, they get very defensive and instead of looking at the problem, start to point fingers around. But whenever they get praised, it will be taken as though the whole world had sung them praises.

I may not be a big fan of how the US administration handle many things, but I would like to say that right, perhaps it is high time that immigration policies in Singapore be reviewed.

The article stated that, there are “active enforcement of labour regulations to deter and identify exploitation”, and support for victims of human trafficking.

The Caged Bird Sings

June 28, 2011 Leave a comment

The caged bird sings
Merry in its content
The walls hold its songs
And its heart holds the dawn

What barbarity had
Stolen the wings that it had
In laughter were feathers shed
In laughter was no malice spared.

Alexander’s heart was broken
Before his body was beaten.

So it is said
The heart is where the soul is caged.

The caged bird sings
As Krakatoa’s terror
Ripped bodies and beings asunder
To ashes, dust and matter.

Yet, the caged bird sings
Between hopeful sighs of release
From the binding vassal
The nest that which became its gaol.
